Installing your own cabinets can be an intimidating project at first, but it is nevertheless very financially rewarding! It still requires a bit of planning, patience and carpentry skills. Here are some general steps to follow:
-
Planning and measuring : Take precise measurements of the space where you want to install the cabinets. Make a plan for where each cabinet will go and how they will fit together.
-
Buy the necessary cabinets and tools : Get the cabinets that suit your space and your needs. Also make sure you have all the necessary tools for installation, such as drill, screwdriver, spirit level, laser (ideal!), tape measure, etc.
-
Preparing the space : Clear out the area where you will install the cabinets. Make sure the walls are clean and smooth, and the floor is level.
-
Assembling cabinets (if necessary) : If your cabinets are not already assembled, carefully follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer to assemble them correctly.
-
Installing Cabinets : Start by installing the upper cabinets, working from left to right. Use a spirit level to make sure the cabinets are perfectly straight. Secure them securely to the wall studs using suitable screws.
-
Installing Lower Cabinets : Install the lower cabinets in the same manner, making sure they are level and flush with the upper cabinets.
-
Installing doors, drawers and accessories : Attach doors and drawers to cabinets according to the manufacturer's instructions. Also install any accessories, such as handles, shelves and organizers.
-
Finish : Check that all cabinets are secure and level. Add baseboards or moldings around the base of the cabinets for a clean finish.
-
Cleanup : Once installation is complete, clean your space and admire your work!
